Academic English and Study Skills
This module prepares students for the demands of studying in a UK university and an English speaking environment, it also prepares them for their IELTS exams.
Skills include:
- Focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Develop broader academic vocabulary and formal sentence structures
- Express opinions and arguments
- Study skills such as: critical thinking; time management; and referencing.
Mathematics and Statistics
This module will cover practical techniques and knowledge of Mathematics and Statistics, and how they can be applied to different contexts.
Subject areas and skills include:
- Mathematics subjects: trigonometry, quadratic equations and linear programming.
- Statistics subjects: correlation, probability and histograms.
- Algebra skills
- Handling equations
- Analysing graphs
Business Studies
This module looks at the world of business from various viewpoints allowing students to explore key business subjects and prepare them for a variety of business related undergraduate programmes.
Topics include:
- Finance
- Marketing
- Sales
- HR
Economics
This module looks at Economics theories and policies and how to apply these ideas to everyday life.
Topics include:
- Macro and micro Economics
- Consumer theory
- Demand and supply
- Issues related to international trade.
British Culture
This module aims to give students knowledge of the country where they will shortly be living and studying. It also draws focus on the differences from China.
Topics Include:
- Education
- Government and politics
- Media
- Etiquette.
Social Activities
This module gives students an opportunity to practice socialising in English in a natural environment outside the classroom. Students will also develop their team spirit and social responsibility.
Social Activities change year to year but might include:
- Forbidden City
- Hutong Tour
- Bowling
- Eating in a Western restaurant
UK Home Stay Programme
This is an extra credit and optional programme, the students have the opportunity to visit the UK and stay with a British family. For more information please go to ‘UK Home Stay’, under the ‘Course’ section of this website.
